Pediatric crowns

Crowns are protective capping given to milk tooth in case of the following conditions:

  • Deep cavity or decay occupying more of tooth surface: when dentist removes the decay portion of tooth, remaining healthy tooth structure will be very little, hence to give strength to the milk tooth for child to chew comfortably, we give capping (crowns).
  • After Root canal Treatment: when root canal treatment is done to a tooth, original strength of tooth will be lost and the tooth becomes brittle (susceptible to fracture on the application of forces while chewing food), and to prevent fracture of the tooth, we advise capping (crowns) for child to chew comfortably.
  • In a case where the dentist might feel that filling cannot be retained on the tooth for a long time, capping is advised.

So we have 3 types of crowns in pediatric dentistry.

*Strip crowns:

Strip crowns are used for front upper teeth to restore the natural shape and smile of the kids.

*Stainless steel crowns

Stainless steel crowns used for back side of the teeth.

*Zirconia Crowns

Zirconia crowns are used for upper front and backside of the teeth to restore the natural shape and smile of the kids.
